Paul tells us in Romans 8 that setting the mind on the flesh is proof that a person is of the flesh, and setting the mind on the things of the Spirit is proof that a person is of the Spirit. The flesh is that which is sinful and the Spirit is that which is of God. What are the “things of the Spirit” then? What are we to set our minds on as those who belong to Jesus? The answer is in Galatians 5:16-25. We see what is meant by the flesh and the Spirit:
“But the fruits of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”
The fruits of the Spirit are the will of God for us and it will take a life time to pursue. They bear fruit by God working in us and us putting forth effort. Let’s press in to make it our own because Christ Jesus has made us his own.
