This morning I woke up to the last day of the year and found out that Officer Shawn Schneider had died as a result of his injuries. You can read about the story at startribune.com.
A death in law enforcement always hits close to home. Schneider was killed as he arrived at a house in which a domestic assault had occurred in Lake City, MN. It is the 162nd death in law enforcement this year. Three hundred children have been left without parents. The untold pain is great.
It doesn’t matter whether a cop works in urban Detroit or rural Lake City. A shots fired call involves dangerous people and real risk. When the feces hits the oscillating blades cops run towards it and this one laid down his life for a woman who was fearing for her life.
