Pray Like Jesus

Lessons to be learned in prayer from Jesus in Matthew 26:36-46

  1. Pray in solitude- Jesus went away from his disciples and found a quiet place to pray. (verse 36)
  2. Have others pray with you and for you- Jesus was honest with his disciples and told them about his sorrow. He brought his three closest friends farther into the garden to join and asked them to join in prayer. (verse 38)
  3. Be honest before our Father- Jesus did not pray a religious sounding prayer. He was honest before God and told him about the war going on inside of his heart. (verse 39)
  4. Pray and pray and pray- Jesus prayed “the same words again”. He was persistent in his pleading to God. (verse 44)
  5. Pray that God’s will be done- Jesus wanted his will to be in line with his Fathers. (verse 42)
